What can I do about a gift that has at least 1 orchid and 3 other kinds of plants?

One is, I think, some type of moth orchid, another is probably an orchid, but i can%26#039;t find a picture of it in any of my books. The other 2 are not orchids. To me it looks as if the pot is much too crowded. If Where can I get advise? I can send photos.|||It%26#039;s important to identify the types of orchids, as they grow in different media and have different watering and feeding needs. A trip to the orchid society%26#039;s website could help, or if you intend to keep them alive, get a good reference book with good photos. For best results, separate them. As a rule, Phals grow in sphagnum moss and are watered only when the moss is dry to the touch, need little light and can survive indoors in artificial light. Most others need some sunlight (placed in or close to a window) grow in coal, coconut husk, bark, or other organic media(Epis,Sun Vanda,Cattleya), pebbles(Dendrobium), or in a wooden box or clay pot with no added medium (see what I mean, you really should identify them ) Good Luck !|||You might check out the American Orchid Society website for pictures. There is also a link to The Orchid Mall, which features hundreds of mail order sources for orchids, and usually FAR cheaper than you could purchase in a grocery store or WalMart.





Many orchids do very well in pots that seem improbably small, dendrobiums in particular.|||Perhaps take the plant to a local garden center, so they can advise you as to what the plants are, and what they require for light, soil, and watering. Orchids generally grow in very limited soil, with bark also used. If they%26#039;re %26#039;keepers%26#039; it will be worth the trip!
